WFP Cash Vouchers: An Innovative Way To Fight Hunger In Darfur

The WFP’s strategic shift to cash vouchers aims to diversify the tools and the ways of ending hunger in Darfur. People can now choose to buy any of the 14 different food items from local traders. This gives them more choice to buy locally prepared food, helps take ownership of their purchasing habits and improves their diets. At the same time, the cash vouchers are strengthening the markets and traders capacities. The WFP currently injects US$2.2 million a month into Darfur’s cash vouchers programs.
