CAR: WFP Reaches Out To Food-Insecure Families, Farmers

The acute emergency has caused widespread disruption in the Central African Republic with food production 50 percent lower in 2014 than before the crisis. Nearly a quarter of the population is in need of urgent food assistance.

Despite the challenges due to conflict, WFP provides food/voucher assistance to vulnerable groups, including small-scale farmers who are able to plant again after their lives have been disrupted last year as well as people who are still displaced across the country. In May, WFP provided food and nutrition assistance to more than half a million people.

Violence continues to fuel displacement and prevent internally displaced people and refugees from returning to their homes. Nearly 1 million people are either displaced within CAR or refugees in neighbouring countries – including 50,000 uprooted since January.
