WFP Myanmar Situation Report on Kokang Response: April 2015

Armed conflict between the Government forces and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army, broken out in early February 2015, has caused massive displacements of people from Kokang Self-Administered Zone, who fled to northern Shan State, Was Self-Administered Division, and China. It is estimated that 78,000 people have been displaced to date, resulting in significant humanitarian needs. The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), mandated to save lives in emergencies, has been closely monitoring the situation on the ground from the onset of the conflict and has started distributions of life-saving food rations to displaced people in areas, where access is possible.
