WFP and China to partner on emergency management

WFP has expertise in global emergency management, built through decades of crises management and countless humanitarian interventions. MEM is committed to disaster prevention, mitigation and relief, and ensuring the safety of people’s lives and property.

WFP’s Chief of Staff, Rehan Asad said that he believes that the partnership will make a substantial impact on providing efficient and effective humanitarian assistance to vulnerable people in need.

“WFP is mandated to provide emergency and development assistance to eradicate hunger and poverty among the poorest and most food-insecure countries and people,” Asad said. “By taking advantage of WFP’s and China’s experiences in emergency management, we can save more lives and change more lives.”

MEM’s Vice Minister, Shang Yong, looks forward to this strategic cooperation. He added that the partnership will enable WFP and MEM to help other developing countries minimize the impact caused by natural disasters by using satellite remote sensing and other technologies.
