Statement from World Food Programme Executive Director David Beasley, welcoming election of new Executive Board President

ROME – Ambassador Hisham Mohamed Badr, Permanent Representative of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the United Nations Agencies in Rome, becomes the President of the World Food Programme’s Executive Board at a critical time, with hunger rising around the globe at an alarming rate. WFP needs the Ambassador’s wise counsel and steady hand as we face these crises, and we will greatly benefit from his knowledge and experience. I know from working with Ambassador Badr personally that the hungry and vulnerable have another strong ally at WFP. As Egypt takes this important position, that compliments its presidency of the African Union, the Egyptian people should be proud of the influence they have on the world stage. I would also like to offer my heartfelt thanks to outgoing President Zoltan Kalman of Hungary for the commitment and guidance he has provided over the past year.
