Expected Thursday: Significant UN Security Council Vote on Link Between Hunger and Conflict
The UN World Food Programme (WFP) applauds the pending passage of this resolution, which would give significant momentum to efforts to eradicate global hunger, which is increasingly linked to conflict.
The "conflict and hunger resolution," as it is informally called, would give food security issues greater attention in Security Council deliberations, boosting efforts to reach the Zero Hunger target of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
The resolution is expected to come to vote in New York at 10:00 a.m. EDT on Thursday, 24 May. It is sponsored by Côte d'Ivoire, Kuwait, the Netherlands and Sweden.
WFP staff in conflict settings such as Syria, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Yemen are available for interviews about how conflict fuels hunger and hampers humanitarian efforts to eradicate it.
