IR-EMOP Assistance to Victims of Hurricane Matthew in the Caribbean

Countries: Dominican Republic, Cuba, Haiti | Operations ID: 201030 | Operations type: Emergency Operation (EMOP)

This operation hs been modified as per budget revision 1 (see below)

Hurricane Matthew was formed near the Windward Islands on 28 September, 2016. As a tropical storm, Matthew impacted Barbados, Dominica, Saint Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Matthew turned into a powerful category 4 hurricane and is now heading towards the various islands of the Caribbean, including Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti and Jamaica.

About one million people were affected across the Caribbean. WFP Emergency Food Security Assessments and United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) teams will support governments to determine the exact impact of the hurricane and inform the geographic targeting of food assistance. Under this IR-EMOP, WFP plans to provide an immediate response assisting 25,000 beneficiaries in hurricane affected areas, from 03 October to 02 November 2016. Priority will be given to the most vulnerable, including families living in shelters, families with malnourished children or children under two, femaleheaded households, pregnant and lactating women and elderly people.

This budget revision proposes a two months extension in time - at no cost - from 2nd November to 31 December 2016, to the Regional IR-EMOP 201030.
